About us
Northside High School is one of seven high school in Onslow County Schools. The school has a student population of approximately 1200. The Northside Band Program consists of Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble. The Northside Band is the school's biggest organization, boasting more than 10% of the student population.
The Marching Monarchs is the single biggest group on campus, having over 90 participants combine. The Marching Monarchs participates in North Carolina Bandmasters Associations state sanctioned competitions throughout the Eastern District of North Carolina. The Marching Monarchs also host the annual marching competition the Monarch Invitational the first weekend of every October. This competition is one of two in Onslow County and is a solid competition in the Marching Band circuit for Eastern North Carolina Bands. Besides competing, the Marching Monarchs also participate in the Onslow County Showcase, the Veterans Day Parade and the Jacksonville Holiday Parade.
The concert programs at Northside High School are also very active. The Concert Band which is in the Fall Semester, combines the Marching Band and Non Marching Band students into one ensemble. They put on the Fall Concert in October and the Winter Concert in December. Also in the Fall, the Percussion Ensemble and Jazz Band begins musical work in time for the Winter Concert and the Spring Semester. Once Spring Semester begins, the program is split up into Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble for the MPA season and Spring Concert.
At the conclusion of the year, the Band Program students and parents as an organization meet together for the end of the year Band Banquet to celebrate and reflect on the the year's accomplishments, recognize the graduating senior class, announce the yearly award winners and also begin preparation for the next school year.
